After last week’s welcome and fun diversion with Regened, it’s back to a 2000 AD with a heady mix of new and old… with three new strips starting this Prog. The House On Bleaker Street sees Dredd dealing with the seriously spooky, Jaegir returns for more Rogue Trooper-verse action, and there’s a new Tharg’s 3Riller with The Mask of Laverna. On top of that, there’s the latest adventures for Dexter and Skip Tracer.
Plenty of good reading awaits in 2000 AD Prog 2247, hitting shops and online on Wednesday 1st September.

JUDGE DREDD: THE HOUSE ON BLEAKER STREET – PART 1 Kenneth Niemand, Nick Percival, letters by Annie Parkhouse
You want a spooky creepy Dredd story? Simple solution – get NIck Percival in for the art, guaranteed creepiness to ensue.
There’s a condemned house on Bleaker Street with reputation for scariness , a group of perps with a kidnapped baby looking for somewhere to hide, and Dredd on their tail.
Yes, you know just where this one’s going.
And that’s no problem, a spooky haunted house horror for Dredd – and there’s no-one better for the art than Percival.
SKIP TRACER – EDEN – PART 10 – James Peaty, Paul Marshall, colours by Dylan Teague, letters by Jim Campbell
Well, Skip Tracer was always going to go well beyond the simple bounty hunting storyline, but it’s rather a surprise that it’s happened this quickly. Baby Eden’s the key to it all, with ultra-baddy Nimrod planning to make nefarious use of her powers to bring down the Consociation.
This episode isn’t really about Peaty’s story though, it’s far more to do with Paul Marshall’s bloody great artwork, taking us into some trippy places as Nimrod really does get into Blake’s head. Marshall’s not an artist who gets the credit he deserves at times, one of those who just delivers great, non-showy art, week in and week out, but something like this really does make you sit up and take notice.
DEXTER: BULLETOPIA CHAPTER 6: SOMEWHERE BEYOND THE SEA – PART 4 – Dan Abnett, Tazio Bettin, colours by John Charles, letters by Simon Bowland.
For a strip that’s run this long, Abnett has an ability to breathe new life into Sinister Dexter. Case in point, Dexter vs Sinister, or at least the AI version of Sinister.
Now, it’s time for the team to meet up again. Not going to be pleasant…
This one’s been so much fun, and although it’s not Steve Yeowell on the artwork, surely the finest Sinister Dexter artist, Tazio Bettin has come onboard, delivering something mixing Yeowell and Simon Fraser, and made the story fly.
THARG’S 3RILLERS – THE MASK OF LAVERNA – PART 1 – Robert Murphy and Steven Austin, colours by Matt Soffe, letters by Simon Bowland
Following on from the ‘Keeper of Secrets’ 3Riller from Progs #2115-2117, it’s the return of Aldelphi, the Oracle capable of communicating with the Gods, assisted with her magical snake tattoo and guardian spirit Erwin.
Her job – keep track of the ancient deities brought back to Earth by the dumbest elements of humanity…
This time round, it’s the mask of Laverna, Goddess of thieves and deception, recently having come into the possession of a Mr Chakarov, who’s not that nice a man, not at all, and is looking to silence a business partner with a touch of that most annoying of things to a crooked businessman, a conscience.
All of which means Delphi is back on the case. It’s simple stuff, but it’s well done simple stuff.
JAEGIR – THE PATH OF KALI – PART 1 – Gordon Rennie, Simon Coleby, colours by Len O’Grady, letters by Annie Parkhouse
Welcome back to the Greater Nordland Republic, with the Norts and the Southers locked in their never-ending war, where Kapiten-Inspectot Atalia Jaegir of the Nordland State Security Police investigates war criminals amongst her own ranks.
Jaegir’s in Nu Nordstadt, capital of the Nordland Republic Territory on Nu Earth, where her crew are letting off a little steam. But, just as with every series of Jaegir thus far, there’s darkness brewing, something to do with the Kali Program.
It’s a welcome return for one of the really great strips of recent years, with Rennie and Coleby on top form, particularly Coleby, showing so much skill in his artwork in here, along with Len O’Grady’s colouring to give us page after page of incredible artwork.
