Something For The Weekend: The Return Of Your Regular Weekly Round Up

We’re back!!!

After a brief New Year’s hiatus we’re proud to be rolling out our new-look ‘Something for the Weekend’ column which will bring you a round up of some of the more popular posts from the past week on our site. But what’s the difference?

Well, I’m glad you asked. You may have already noticed our new ‘Review Round Up’ column debuting last weekend? We’ve taken the step to gather up our comic book reviews all in one place making it easier for you to find a particular review from the past week’s new releases. It’s all part of our ongoing aim to present you something a bit different as part of our regular scheduled weekend line-up.

In giving comic book reviews their very own spot each and every Saturday, we are more able to offer a more varied selection of top posts and give you a better taste of what we’re all about here.

We’ve come a long way in the past year or so. When once we had a very light weekend line-up we now bring you news, preview and regular features such as our ‘Super Sunday’ themed selection of previews. We aloso have a number of well established features too, with  Ben Martin’s ‘Franchise Explosion (or Implosion)’ and regular Saturday staple, ‘Art for Art’s Sake’ from Richard Bruton. It’s all building towards an entertaining and informative line-up. Or at least that’s the plan.

So, with that ‘mission stamens’ out of the way, what have you been reading this past week here on comicon.com? Here’s you first ten-to-takeway of 2021:

  1. Let’s kick off this new-look column with something of an old favourite making the list: ‘New to You Comics’. This week’s instalment saw Brendan M Allen and Tony Thornley reviewing the Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely classic graphic novel Earth 2 here.
  2. Each week we bring you often exclusive and always extended previews of Dynamite Comics’ new titles, but even I was surprised to see this one stand out as the most popular amongst fans. Bettie Page #5 was previewed here.
  3. Let’s switch to some movie news, shall we? Like a lot of films that were due out last year, Godzilla Vs King King gets a rescheduled date as reported on by EiC Erik Amaya. But sitting here in the UK under a nation-wide lockdown, I can’t help but feel that’s still a little optimistic.
  4. Our EiC also brought up news of HBO Max’s offerings coming this February. Check out the line-up here.
  5. He also brought us the first look trailer for the new Peanuts show, The Snoopy Show coming to Apple TV+ February 5th. Check it out here.
  6. Sticking with TV, Rachel Bellwoar took a look at the first season of Netflix’s Snowpiercer: The Complete First Season, in her review here.
  7. Meanwhile, Koom Kankesan reviewed the Martin Scorsese produced Netflix documentary series, Pretend It’s A City, here.
  8. We had a number of interviews posted this week, always a firm favourite for me. We start you off with James Ferguson talking with Jason Inman about his new crowdfunded comic book series Super Best Friends here.
  9. Meanwhile Brendan M Allen scored an interview with Paul Allor this past week, discussing Allor’s new Vault Comics’ series Hollow Heart here.
  10. And finally, Sophie Campbell talked to Scott Redmond about her new (ish) writing gig on IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles here.

That’s your lot for this week. And while it’s still a list dominate with comic book news and previews – but then we are a comic book website forest and foremost – I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a good spread.

Now, we wouldn’t  be doing our job if we didn’t offer you up something extra. So,here’s a oldie but a goody, the Ramones and their cover of the classic 60’s animated Spider-Man TV theme tune.

As ever, enjoy what’s left of the weekend and stay safe and stay well.
