Mild Spoilers Ahead
Betty, Braga, and Dee attend Mads’ violin performance while Hannah goes about the task of locating and killing her evil self. The former is interrupted by a would-be goblin assassin; the latter is interrupted by Castiwyr–who has a proposition for Hannah. The Rat Queens meet for breakfast the next day, and a farmer approaches them about a quest. A giant has arrived and parked itself on his crops and he needs it gone. However, it’s no ordinary giant. It’s a Titan of ancient times. Dee and Betty are worried that this is a sign of the end times of which Evil Hannah spoke.
Rat Queens #21 once again finds the team facing down the end of the world and performing quests for the people. The foreboding prophecy of Evil Hannah hangs above the Queens’ heads, but they’re still trying to enjoy the peace and go about their lives.
Naturally, Hannah is taking the existence of Evil Hannah harder than the others and Dee is still fretting about the death of the gods, which has made her the last living god.
The Titan makes for a fun threat for them to face. It’s a relic of ancient times and they know they can’t risk killing it. However, it is also threatening the farmlands and they can’t allow that.
As always, the dialogue is a highlight of the comic. From Hannah’s thirstiness and frequent use of obscenities to Betty’s endearing yet quick wit, it’s always a treat to spend some time with the Queens.
Priscilla Petraites continues to be an artistic powerhouse who brings the Rat Queens to life in spectacular fashion. Her detailing is strong and thorough and the action scenes are always a ton of fun. Marco Lesko’s color work is powerful and vibrant, ensuring that this book is full to the brim with life and energy.
Rat Queens #21 is another fun installment for the crew. We get to watch them cope with the possibility of imminent apocalypse while still trying to go about their usual business. Hannah is as irreverent as ever, but she’s taking a special interest in making sure her dark self is dealt with. The team is endearing and engaging and the book gets a recommendation. Check it out.
