Crime comics have had a bit of a resurgence over the past few years and I’m loving it. Dark Horse Comics had published a collection of them back in 2009 called Noir featuring stories from Brian Azzarello, Jeff Lemire, Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips, and more, not to mention top notch artwork from Joelle Jones, Gabriel Ba, Fabio Moon, and Paul Grist to name a few. The publisher has announced a re-release of this book, now in hardcover, coming in July 2020. I missed this the first time around and I’m not going to make that same mistake again.
There are 11 stories altogether, featuring murder, passion, and criminal enterprise in their darkest form. Deadly con men, embittered detectives, femme fatales, and accidental murderers are all presented in sharp black and white.
Noir: A Collection of Crime Comics clocks in at 120 pages and will retail for $24.99. It’s set for release on July 22nd, 2020.
