Nintendo’s recent Pokemon conference saw them confirm via Twitter a host of new titles for the franchise across both their Nintendo Switch platform as well as smartphones.
They began with confirming that they were making a follow-up to Detective Pikachu, playing off the popularity of the original title as well as the recent, well-received film. They didn’t want to go into too much detail on the story here, but they acknowledged the 3DS game ended on a cliffhanger, and that they intended to resolve that storyline. This game will be developed by Creatures, Inc., the same developer who worked on the original Detective Pikachu title, and will release for the Nintendo Switch. There’s currently no scheduled release date for this game.
Next, they went into detail on Pokemon Home, a new cloud service app which will work with Android, iOS, and the Nintendo Switch. Pokemon Home will allow players to connect to the Pokemon Bank in a new way. Like this, trainers can manage their Pokemon collection across more than one title or even platform. The Pokemon Home will work with Pokemon Go, the Pokemon Let’s Go titles, and the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield. Players will be able to trade their Pokemon between titles, but also with friends playing as well. Pokemon Home will be available at the beginning of 2020.
The third title is Pokemon Sleep, a new app being developed which will allow trainers to develop Pokemon while they’re sleeping. The game will track when a player sleeps and awakens, with that changing the gameplay. This will work with a new device known as Pokemon GO! Plus, which will work to track a player’s sleeping habits and transmit the information to their smartphones. This mobile application will launch sometime in 2020.
Lastly, there’s Pokemon Masters, a new smartphone focused title which will be developed by Nintendo partner DeNA. Pokemon Masters is designed to be an experience for casual and mobile game players, one in which players will be able to battle against well-known Pokemon trainers from older Pokemon games. These battles will be centered around 3v3 combat. Pokemon Masters will release for mobile fans later this year, and more information will be revealed in June, presumably at E3.
