A Must Read For Comic Fans: Masters Of Comics Launches At Portsmouth Comic Con

After a rather raucous weekend, I was pleasantly surprised by one last thrill come Monday morning when a rather hefty package dropped on my doorstep first thing. To discover that it was the new oversized book, Masters of Comics, by Joel Meadows, was great news. Not only written by Meadows, but including many of his own photographs of some of the world’s leading comic book creators, this book is a lovingly crafted 181 page tome that includes interviews with the likes of Walt Simonson, Milo Manara, Frank Quitely and Posy Simmonds. All wrapped up with an foreword by Mark Verheiden.

Taking three years to put together, it gives any reader wanting to pick it up an amazing peek into the artists’ studios and homes. A real rarity, packed full of the creator’s artwork too. Like I said, a real must for comic book fans, I reckon, as it gives you access to creators on a scale I’ve not seen before. I can see why it took so long to put together.

In this deluxe hardcover book, readers are invited into the studio spaces of some of the most popular and prolific comic artists in the world. Through dynamic photography and exclusive interviews, Masters of Comics offers a rare, personal look at these artists’ unique creative environments—spaces in which some of the greatest comics and graphic novels of the last fifty years took shape.

Masters of Comics offers a glimpse “behind the veil,” shining new light on the artistic process. It’s the ultimate backstage pass for comic fans, as well as a wonderful learning tool for aspiring artists wishing to learn from the greats.

If you’re coming to Portsmouth Comic Con this coming weekend (and the forecast is one again promising warm weather, so I’ve packed my bucket and speed already) you’ll be able to pick up your copy as Meadows – one fo the show’s wranglers – will be bringing a limited edition run with him. I’ll leave you with a preview of the book to give you a better idea of its content with this full interview with Rafael Albuquerque (Prodigy), one of Portsmouth Comic Con’s inaugural guests from last year.

Masters of Comics is published by Insight Comics and costs $24.99.
